What is an in‑film label? Many people commonly refer to it as a lettering film. As industry insiders, we’re thoroughly familiar with heat‑transfer films, but for those who aren’t, they might not even know the basics of heat‑press application. Now, let us share some essential information about heat‑transfer films!
What is an in‑film label? Many people commonly refer to it as a lettering film. As industry insiders, we’re thoroughly familiar with heat‑transfer films, but for those who aren’t, they might not even know the basics of heat‑press application. Now, let us share some essential information about heat‑transfer films!
In-membrane lamination What is it made of?

1. Base Film: The thermal transfer film serves as the carrier for the release layer, the printing layer, and the adhesive layer. Common base films include PET film, OPP film, PVC film, and others. The appropriate base film should be selected based on the specific requirements of the product; otherwise, the quality of the thermal transfer product may be compromised.
2. Release layer: A coating of release agent that remains solid at room temperature, melts at a specified temperature, reduces adhesion to the substrate, and enables rapid detachment from the base film without leaving any adhesive residue.
3. Printing Layer: This layer forms the foundation of the aesthetic appeal of heat‑transfer products, with the key lying in the selection and combination of heat‑transfer inks. Once the heat‑transfer process is complete, only the printing layer remains on the surface of the product; therefore, choosing the right materials for this layer is especially critical, as an oversight can compromise the overall quality of the heat‑transfer product.
4. Adhesive layer: This is a hot-melt adhesive. Select the appropriate heat-transfer adhesive based on the substrate material.
Solve In-membrane lamination Four steps to address hot stamping defects:
1. Keep the machine clean: Ensure that the machine’s critical components are free of oil and dust; keep the heat-transfer film clean, free of fingerprints and dust; maintain the printed materials free of dust and oil; and keep the operator’s hands clean, free of oil and sweat.
2. Hot-stamping temperature: The hot-stamping temperature significantly affects the quality of heat-transfer products. If the temperature is too high, the substrate may be damaged; if it is too low, proper transfer may not occur. The ironing temperature should be determined based on factors such as the substrate, the transfer film, and the heat-transfer machine. Different materials require different ironing temperatures.
3. Hot-stamping pressure: The hot-stamping pressure must be set to an appropriate level; too high can damage the rubber blanket and the substrate, while too low will compromise the stamping quality. Once the pressure is adjusted, it should be secured and locked to prevent variations during mass production.
4. In-membrane hot stamping speed: The hot stamping time (and speed) must be determined based on the specific material being stamped. While ensuring satisfactory stamping results, higher speeds lead to greater production efficiency. However, due to certain special circumstances, some products require the use of slower hot stamping speeds.
