Aluminum pole spray paint
The core medium of the heat-transfer printing process involves pre-printing the design onto a PET carrier film. By applying heat and pressure, the image layer is released from the carrier film and firmly bonded to the product’s surface, achieving decorative surface printing.

Product Details
I. Basic Structure (Four-Layer Mainstream Architecture)
Base layer (PET carrier film): A high-temperature-resistant film that serves as the support substrate and is peeled off after transfer.
Release layer (peel-off layer): Exhibits strong adhesion at room temperature, with reduced tack upon heating, enabling the pattern to detach cleanly from the base film without leaving any residue.
Printing layer (ink layer): It carries the pattern, color, and design, serving as the visual‑effect layer; some versions include a protective coating to enhance wear resistance and UV durability.
Hot-melt adhesive layer: Melts upon heating, firmly bonding the design to the workpiece surface; ensure the adhesive is compatible with the material being bonded.
Simple three-layer structure: base layer–printing layer–adhesive layer; the high-end five-layer version adds a wear-resistant protective layer.
II. Operating Principle
The thermal transfer film is applied to the workpiece, and the thermal transfer press—whether roller‑type, flat‑press, or vacuum thermoforming—provides the necessary temperature and pressure. The hot‑melt adhesive melts, the release layer loses its adhesion, and the pattern together with the protective layer is cleanly peeled away from the PET carrier film, transferring onto the product surface. After cooling, it cures to form a durable, scratch‑resistant decorative finish.
The three key factors are temperature, pressure, and speed; if these parameters are off, issues such as insufficient heating, color mottling, peeling, or bubbling may occur. Douyin Encyclopedia.
III. Main Categories
1. Classified by用途 / material
Plastic thermal transfer film: used for ABS, PP, PE, and PS plastics; suitable for stationery, toys, cosmetic bottles, and housings of small household appliances.
Wood Grain / Marble Building Material Thermal Transfer Film: for door panels, cabinets, profiles, PVC / MDF, and furniture decoration.
Metallic heat-transfer film: aluminum profiles, hardware components, and decorative metal housings.
Fabric heat-transfer film (heat-transfer vinyl/HTV): for apparel and luggage, available in hot-tear and cold-tear varieties; includes DTF white-ink heat-transfer film.
Special-effect films: metallic brushed, laser‑etched, frosted, matte, pearlescent, and reflective films.
2. By Process Method
Roller heat-transfer film: continuous roll stock, suitable for large‑volume flat and simple curved workpieces.
Vacuum thermoforming transfer film: suitable for embossed, irregularly shaped, and three-dimensional workpieces (such as door panels and crafts).
Flat-press heat transfer film: suitable for small batches and flat, small items.
IV. Advantages
One‑step molding: Multi‑color patterns are transferred in a single pass, eliminating the need for overprinting and delivering rich, finely detailed colors.
Adaptable to irregular curved surfaces: capable of producing concave, convex, and curved products, as well as intricate designs that are difficult to achieve with screen printing.
Excellent finished‑product performance: after transfer printing, the surface exhibits superior wear resistance, scratch resistance, UV resistance, and water resistance, with strong adhesion.
High production efficiency: suitable for large-scale automated manufacturing;
Environmental protection: The ink is encapsulated within the film, eliminating solvent emissions and wastewater discharge on-site.
V. Limitations
A matching hot-melt adhesive is required: Do not mix films intended for different substrates—PP plastic, ABS, metal, and fabric each require a distinct adhesive system; selecting the wrong one can lead to delamination.
Specialized heat-transfer equipment is required, and the cost of small-batch proofing is relatively high.
Under high-temperature conditions, substrates that are not heat-resistant cannot be used.
VI. Typical Application Areas
Plastics: pens, toys, cosmetic bottles, housings for small household appliances, and everyday consumer goods.
Building Materials & Furniture: Cabinet Door Panels, PVC Profiles, Wood-Plastic Composite Boards, Decorative Mouldings
Hardware & Metals: Aluminum Profiles, Metal Casings for Home Appliances
Textile Bags: Apparel, Backpacks, and Heat-Transfer Prints for Shoes and Hats
Gift crafts: pen holders, drinking cups, decorative ornaments, etc.
VII. Distinction from Sublimation Printing
Heat-transfer film (film transfer): The design is a thin film adhered to the surface of an object and can be used on plastic, metal, and fabric.
Sublimation: The dye penetrates deep into the material and is suitable only for polyester fabrics and coated metals; it lacks the tactile feel of a film layer.
